The founder

Thirty years of building things that had to work.

Calvin Brown has been writing and architecting software since 1996. In that time he has designed and led cloud transformations across AWS, Azure, and GCP for Fortune 500 companies, governments, and founders — building platforms for Delta Air Lines, The Grammys, AT&T, Accenture, GE, Norfolk Southern, CEVA Logistics, Western Governors University, and Parker Hannifin and dozens of others.

The work has always been global. Logistics networks that move freight across continents, airline systems that cannot go down, enterprise architecture programs spanning distributed teams in multiple countries. He is an AWS Solutions Architect Professional, and he founded Kairu Consulting in 2003 to do this kind of delivery for the world's largest organizations.

He has also built from nothing. BookMyStylist, created in 2005 to run his own barber locations, became one of the first online booking platforms for the beauty industry — trademarked, patented, and eventually licensed by a major VC firm into some of today's largest salon and barber booking platforms. Today, through SweetGum.ai, he brings enterprise-grade AI and automation to the companies that were priced out of it.

And he has spent years building rooms for other people to stand in. Black Men Coding, which he founded in 2017, has grown to five thousand Black engineers. This university is the next version of that instinct: taking three decades of field experience and handing it to the people who come next.

Curriculum vitae

Where the teaching comes from

1996

The first line of production code

Thirty years ago, in a field that had not yet named half of what it does today. Everything since has been built on shipping software that people depend on.

2002

Kairu Consulting founded

Two decades of multi-cloud architecture and delivery for global enterprises — designing platforms across AWS, Azure, and GCP for organizations operating on several continents.

2005

BookMyStylist built

One of the first online booking services for salons and spas, built to run the founder's own barber locations before the category existed.

2008

Trademark and patent filed

The BookMyStylist engine was licensed by a major VC firm and now sits underneath some of today's largest salon and barber booking platforms.

2017

Black Men Coding founded

A community that has grown to five thousand Black engineers — mentorship, hiring, and craft at scale.

2024

SweetGum.ai founded

Enterprise-grade software and AI tooling for small and mid-sized companies that were priced out of it.

Colleges & schools

Global reach, global standards.

Every course is taught from work that shipped — real transformations, real patents, real production systems. Global reach, global standards.

AWS · Azure · GCP

School of Cloud Architecture

Landing zones, migrations, security, and cost discipline — taught from real transformations at Delta Air Lines, Norfolk Southern, and CEVA Logistics. Led by an AWS Solutions Architect Professional.

Automation · AI-native products

School of Applied AI

AI that survives contact with a business: automating operations, accelerating decisions, and shipping AI-native applications rather than demos.

Platforms · DevOps · Integration

School of Enterprise Engineering

How Fortune 500 systems are actually assembled and kept running — distributed teams, legacy integration, and the architecture programs that hold it together.

Product · Patents · Licensing

School of Founders & Ventures

From an idea to a filed patent to a licensing deal, using the BookMyStylist path as the case study — plus what a $5M-funded venture demands of its architecture.
